What the MOT tester checks
The tester looks at the TPMS warning lamp. When the ignition goes on it normally lights and then goes out. If the lamp stays on, that does not automatically mean a fault, because it may just be showing low pressure. In a real fault the lamp may flash a number of times and then stay on.
If it is not clear whether the lamp is showing a fault or low pressure, the tester adds an advisory instead of failing the car.
Which cars are covered
Cars (category M1) first used on or after 1 January 2012. Motor caravans, ambulances and hearses over 2,500kg gross weight are excluded. Not sure about yours? Text us your registration.
